'Duck' Desk Lamp in Wood, Metal and Brass, De Stijl Edition, 1970s.

This table lamp is a representative creation of the taste for animal sculpture in high-end decoration during the late 20th century. The structural design relies on a rectangular base combining a polished brass frame with a thick tinted glass plate (resting on four small turned feet). The central element is a sculpture of a duck, whose body is carved from stained and varnished solid wood, providing a technical contrast to a finely textured silver-plated metal head. The tubular brass stem rises from the animal's back to support the lighting system. Bearing the signature 'De Stijl', this piece does not refer to the Dutch avant-garde movement of the 1920s, but rather to a luxury decorative brand active in Europe during the 1970s and 1980s. Following closely in the footsteps of Maison Charles or Maison Jansen creations of the same era, this production excels in combining noble materials (wood, brass, glass, or lucite) to create prestigious lighting fixtures. This type of hunting-lodge ornamentation was particularly commissioned to furnish opulent interiors and executive libraries. The lamp is in very good overall condition. The original oval lampshade, made of a tobacco-colored textured fabric (resembling raw silk) and trimmed with gold fillets, is preserved. This lamp will naturally find its place on an executive desk, a console, or a side table, bringing a 'Gentleman's Club' atmosphere characteristic of the elegant interiors of this period.
