Pair of Painted Tole and Brass Cache-Pots, Bucolic Landscapes, 19th Century
This delightful pair of cache-pots illustrates all the charm and elegance of 19th-century painted toleware. Highly prized during the Restoration and Second Empire periods, this type of craftsmanship allowed easel painting to be introduced into everyday decorative objects. With their resolutely romantic spirit, these cache-pots are in the pure tradition of bourgeois interiors and period country homes. Standing 15.5 cm tall with a diameter of 13 cm, these two pieces stand out through the warmth of their colors and the delicacy of their ornamentation. The deep burgundy red background superbly highlights large oval medallions encircled by a gilt laurel wreath. Inside, delicate hand-painted bucolic landscapes come to life, featuring cottages, figures, and an idealized nature. The whole is elegantly accentuated by stepped bases and rims in repoussé brass, bringing a touch of light to the composition. Small wire handles complete the upper section. Offered in good antique condition, this pair shows natural wear to the paint and gilding, as well as slight traces of oxidation. This patina of time, inherent to antique toleware handled over generations, testifies to their absolute authenticity and gives them an undeniable vintage charm. Perfectly sized, they will make excellent symmetrical elements to flank a clock on a mantelpiece, adorn a console table, or hold small dried floral arrangements.
