Sculptural Trompe-l'Œil Solid Wood 'Nut on Skis' Bottle Holder, 1970s
This astonishing bottle holder is a perfect testament to the playful and quirky spirit of 1970s design. Borrowing both from the Pop Art movement (with its concept of an oversized industrial object) and the 'Chalet' style, this transformation of a giant nut into a bar accessory is as amusing as it is aesthetic. Measuring 30 cm in length, the object stands out with its meticulously turned wood craftsmanship. The main body takes the shape of a large hexagonal nut pierced by a fully functional threaded wooden bolt. This ingenious mechanism clamps down on the neck of a wine bottle. The entire piece rests and finds its perfect balance on two beautiful blades of curved metal (brass or copper) reminiscent of old alpine skis. The warm grain of the wood contrasts beautifully with the patina of the metal. Offered in very good vintage condition, this unusual bar accessory boasts a warm patina. It is an ideal curiosity piece to enliven a dining table, decorate a 'mountain cabin' inspired interior, or offer as a unique and sophisticated gift to a wine enthusiast.
