Set of Three Small Glazed Ceramic Vases, in the Style of Georges Jouve, 1950s
This delightful set of three small cylindrical vases powerfully illustrates the sleekness and modernity of 1950s French studio ceramics. Strongly influenced by the formal research of the great masters of the era, and particularly by the work of Georges Jouve, these pieces break free from any superfluous decoration to give primacy to line and material. Standing 10.5 cm tall with subtly varying diameters (from 5 to 6.5 cm), these pieces reveal remarkable glaze work. Two of them are covered in a thick, deep, and vibrant 'oxblood' red glaze, while the third boasts a luminous milky white. The contrast between the mirroring shine of the glaze and the raw, matte terracotta left exposed at the rims demonstrates a perfect technical mastery, typical of the best productions of the period. Offered in beautiful vintage condition, this cohesive set forms a true modernist 'still life'. These pieces will naturally find their place grouped together on a sideboard, on a desk as precious pen holders, or scattered to hold small single-stem flowers in a contemporary or mid-century interior.
