Six Arms Chandelier in Gilt Metal, Green-Lacquered Tole, Spray of Foliage, Crystal Cups and Pendants. Italian Work. Circa 1970

This chandelier is organised around a central glass cup encircled by an openwork gallery, from which springs a spray of long tapering leaves in green-lacquered tole. Six gilt metal light arms, sinuous and slender, escape from it to carry glass cups with cut rims, each bristling with a crown of green leaves and highlighted with fine crystal drops falling like rain. The candle cups ringed in green reinforce the harmony of the palette.

This stylised naturalism - tole foliage, glass cups, light pendants - is characteristic of Italian productions of the 1950s, which revisited the tradition of the palace chandelier with a very decorative floral fantasy.

Condition report: Good general condition. Gilding and green lacquer with an even patina of use, glass and drops possibly presenting likely micro-scratches, possible minute losses to the pendants. Electricity checked by an electrician. A spectacular piece that will illuminate a dining room or a reception room.
