Cylindrical Brass Umbrella Stand with Ring Handles and Claw Feet, Neoclassical Style, Circa 1900

This umbrella stand takes the form of a cylindrical brass vase, whose neck and base are underlined by concentric fillet mouldings. Two lateral handles with mobile rings, mounted on plates, ease handling. The whole rests on cast brass claw feet, a classic quotation from the antique-inspired vocabulary. This model of brass umbrella stand, robust and refined, is characteristic of the Neoclassical taste of bourgeois interiors around 1900, when entrance-hall furniture borrowed its repertoire — rings, claws, fillets — from the wine coolers and athéniennes of the First Empire. Condition report: Good general condition. Brass with a fine, deep and even bronzed patina, with a natural surface oxidation consistent with age; some traces of use to the interior. A timeless entrance accessory, equally useful as a cachepot or cane stand.
