DESCRIPTION DU PRODUIT

Adrien Audoux (1900–1987) and Frida Minet (1899–1976) were among the most original voices in French decorative design of the mid-twentieth century. Having met in the late 1930s while both were working in fashion and interior decoration, they collaborated under the joint name Audoux-Minet, developing a distinctive aesthetic built around the use of natural materials — above all rope, cord, rattan, and wicker — which they elevated from humble craft to sophisticated art object. Their furniture and lighting, shown at the Salon des Arts Ménagers and adopted by leading French interior decorators, won the admiration of figures including Charlotte Perriand, and their work is today represented in major museum collections in France and abroad.

The present floor lamp exemplifies the Audoux-Minet approach at its most refined. The conical form — broad at the base and tapering upward — is constructed entirely from wound rope in a technique that showcases both the material's tactile richness and the makers' structural ingenuity. The lamp measures 60 cm square at its widest point and rises to a height of 161 cm, creating a substantial yet visually light presence that would suit a variety of interiors. The natural tones of the rope lend the piece a warm, organic quality that responds beautifully to both natural and artificial light.

Dating from circa 1950, this floor lamp sits at the heart of the postwar Mid-Century Modern moment, when French designers were exploring the expressive possibilities of natural fibres with renewed energy. A work in the spirit of Audoux and Minet, it carries the authority of that tradition while offering the practical pleasures of a genuinely beautiful object. It would be at home in a period collector's interior, a contemporary apartment with a taste for organic forms, or any space seeking an object of genuine visual distinction.
