Neoclassical Style Brass Drinks Trolley with Glass Trays by Maison Jansen circa 1940

This rolling table is a representative creation of mid-20th-century Parisian high-end occasional furniture ("mobilier volant"). The structural design revolves around a solid brass chassis. The four main uprights adopt a sinuous, curved profile, conferring visual lightness to the piece. The mobility of the furniture is ensured by an asymmetrical system: the front rests on small pivoting directional casters, while the rear is equipped with two large spoked wheels fitted with rubber tires. The cart features two rectangular clear glass trays with rounded corners, rigorously held by pierced brass galleries. The cart is steered via a lateral handle incorporating a textured central sleeve (lucite or glass) terminating in rosettes.

The rigor of the assembly, the neoclassical repertoire, and the quality of the hardware allow this piece to be formally linked to Maison Jansen. Founded in Paris in 1880, Maison Jansen remained the absolute benchmark for international interior decoration for nearly a century. Under the direction of Stéphane Boudin, the house specialized in reinterpreting Directoire and Empire styles, designing highly refined furniture for a prestigious clientele (embassies, high aristocracy). Brass bar carts were essential commissioned pieces for service in grand reception rooms.

Condition report: Good overall condition. The brass structure displays a natural and even patina of use, with minute traces of oxidation inherent to its age. The two original glass plates are intact (likely showing surface micro-scratches from use). The rolling system is functional.
