Bottle Holder in Woven Wicker and Leather with Six Pyramid-Form Housings, French Work, 1950s

This bottle rack stacks six cylindrical sleeves in woven wicker, arranged in a pyramid over three rows and bordered with fibre twists at the ends. The whole is enclosed in an armature of riveted black leather straps, which ensures the cohesion of the composition and extends into a carrying handle with a buckle. The bottles slip lying down into the openwork housings that let them breathe.

This type of refined utilitarian object is characteristic of French work of the 1950s, where the marriage of wicker and saddle-stitched leather evokes the saddler spirit dear to Jacques Adnet, then very much in vogue in tableware and cellar accessories.

Condition report: Good overall condition. Wicker weavings complete with a fine brown patina, supple leather showing an authentic usage patina. A cellar accessory full of character, in a kitchen, a pantry or on a sideboard.
