Large Pair of Louis the 14th Bronze and Mirror Wall Lights

This large pair of Louis XIV style wall lights combines chased bronze and mirror: each has three light arms arranged around a central mirror. French work, 19th century. Each wall light measures 37.5 cm wide, 21.5 cm deep and 56 cm high. The Louis XIV style, the expression of French Baroque in the Grand Siècle, is characterised by generous forms and rich ornament. Combining mirror and light fitting, a fashionable practice in that period, multiplied the light of the candles. The nineteenth century widely revived these models, which bronze makers reproduced with care. Offered as a pair, these wall lights lend themselves to a symmetrical arrangement in a living room or dining room.
