Pair of Brushed Steel & Glass Side Tables, Guy Lefèvre for Maison Jansen, France circa 1970

A distinguished pair of side tables attributed to Guy Lefèvre, the leading designer of Maison Jansen during its celebrated final decade, and among the most accomplished French furniture designers of the 1970s. Lefèvre succeeded the legendary Stéphane Boudin at the helm of Jansen and brought a refined neoclassical modernist sensibility to the house’s output, producing interiors and furniture for the world’s most exacting private clients and heads of state. These side tables exemplify his mastery of the period’s most prestigious decorative vocabulary.

Each table is constructed of brushed steel finished in a warm golden tone, its square frame composed of clean flat-bar sections that meet at precisely mitred corners — a detail visible in the close-up of the frame where the meeting of two steel sections produces an elegant, jewel-like joint. The clear glass top rests within a steel border detailed with a continuous row of small studs or bosses around its inner edge, a refined decorative accent that enlivens the transition between the metal frame and the glass surface. Below, an open lower shelf provides a practical additional storage surface while maintaining the visual lightness of the overall composition.
