Pair of Rattan Armchairs with Wraparound Back, French Work, 1960s

Each armchair features a horseshoe-shaped wraparound back, fitted with parallel bent rattan stems that follow the curve of the frame and extend naturally towards the armrests, themselves underlined by a side loop. The curved seat, made of bent slats, rests on a splayed rattan base joined by curved stretchers, the whole assembled with careful lashings.

This model illustrates the fine French rattan production of the 1960s, heir to the traditional workshops and the Riviera taste, where the suppleness of the material allowed these organic silhouettes, at once light, comfortable and sturdy.

Condition report: Good overall condition. Sound rattan with an even golden honey patina, slats complete, lashings in place, stable structures. A warm pair for a living room, a veranda or a bedroom, to be dressed with cushions or seat pads to taste.
