Pair of Large Brass Altar Pricket Candlesticks with a Baluster Shaft and a Tripod Base, 18th Century

Each pricket candlestick features a brass shaft vigorously turned in superimposed balusters, rings and bands, surmounted by a wide moulded drip pan carrying its original iron prick intended to spike the candle. The faceted triangular base, tiered with strong mouldings, rests on three small feet, the classic silhouette of altar fittings. These pricket candlesticks belong to the art of the 18th-century brass-founder and metalworker, who supplied churches and chapels with fittings in turned brass. Removed from their liturgical context, they are today prized as objects of haute époque, whose frank turning and gilt patina suit all interiors. Condition report: Good general condition given its age. Brass with a deep gilt patina of use, small marks of time inherent to age.
