DESCRIPTION DU PRODUIT

This wall light presents a backplate in gilt wrought iron with an architectural design: an escutcheon with concave shoulders encloses an openwork oval medallion punctuated with spheres, surmounted by a paneled pediment bearing a seed finial; the base ends in a gadrooned drop and a spinning top. Two S-shaped light arms, in hammered iron revealing the forge, curve laterally and bear wide circular bobèches with gilt cylindrical sockets. This classicising vocabulary — escutcheon, seeds, full volutes — treated in gilt wrought iron with a vibrant patina, allows this wall light to be stylistically linked to the work of Gilbert Poillerat, the great ironworker of the 1940s, a pupil of Brandt and author of an ironwork Neoclassicism that marked the French décor of the period. Condition report: Good general condition. Gilding with a nuanced old patina, scattered wear revealing the iron, to fine effect. Wiring to be checked before use. A wall light of character, superb in an entrance or accompanying a fireplace.
