Cage Chandelier in Gilt Metal with Foliage and Multicoloured Glass Fruit Decoration, Italian Work, Circa 1950

This cage chandelier is organised around a central gilt metal structure dressed with foliage in cut tole, from which radiate six light arms with bobèches in the form of open flowers. A profusion of fruit and drops in blown glass — amber, emerald green and amethyst — is suspended among the leaves, animating the whole with coloured reflections. The stem and the upper crown take up this fruity decoration up to the ceiling cap in a gilt bowl. This type of chandelier, joyful and refined, is characteristic of Italian work of the 1950s, heir to the tradition of girandoles with glass fruit, in the spirit of the Venetian and Florentine productions that then appealed to the international clientele. Condition report: Good overall condition. Gilding with a warm patina, glass fruit in fine apparent condition with inevitable micro-variations of tone proper to blown glass.
