Pair of Neoclassical-Style Three-Light Brass Sconces with Rosette and Palmette Decoration, Circa 1950

Each sconce is organised around a vertical brass escutcheon plate, topped with a radiating palmette, centred with a large finely chased blossoming rosette and ending at the bottom with a second rosette and a pendant palmette. Three light arms in graceful curves, adorned with ribboned leaves, detach from it, ending in moulded dishes and candle nozzles fitted with faux candles. The vocabulary of rosettes, palmettes and water leaves belongs to the Neoclassical repertoire inherited from the Louis XVI and Empire styles, here interpreted by the French bronziers of the 1950s, who perpetuated with skill the great tradition of bronze and brass lighting. Condition report: Good overall condition. Brass with a fine gilded patina, crisp chasing, old faux candles. Wiring to be checked before use. A pair generous in light, ideal on either side of a mirror, a fireplace or in an entrance hall.
