DESCRIPTION DU PRODUIT
This mortar features a bowl form with thick walls, carved from a deep black marble with a gently polished surface, resting on a small circular foot. The interior, hollowed into a basin, shows the slightly grained surface characteristic of mortars in use. It is accompanied by its pestle in black marble of the same shade, with a slightly tapered shaft.
A utilitarian object par excellence, the stone mortar passes through the centuries of pantries and apothecaries; this black marble model, of simple and massive design, belongs to antique folk art and appeals today by its almost sculptural purity, in keeping with the taste for raw and timeless objects.
Condition report: Good general condition. Sound marble, without visible crack; interior surface patinated by use, small marks of time contributing to the charm of the object. An authentic and graphic piece, as beautiful in a kitchen as set as a sculptural object on a shelf.
