DESCRIPTION DU PRODUIT
Each bookend depicts a stylised elephant in spelter with a shaded green patina, set on a gadrooned hemisphere and holding a ball with the tip of its coiled trunk — a composition full of movement and humour. The subjects rest on rectangular bases with cut corners in white-veined black marble.
This stylised and geometricised bestiary is characteristic of Art Deco animal sculpture of the 1930s, in the spirit of the editions of Max Le Verrier or Irénée Rochard, where the elephant, a fetish motif of the period, lends itself to the synthetic lines of the style.
Condition report: Good general condition. Original green patina well preserved, with deep nuances; sound marble bases, without major visible chip. A decorative pair full of character, perfect in a library or on a desk to hold fine volumes.
