DESCRIPTION DU PRODUIT
This display column features a cylindrical shaft in wood painted in trompe-l'œil imitating a black marble richly veined with gold and white, in the great tradition of faux marble by decorative painters. The shaft, underlined by an astragal in the lower part, rests on a quadrangular base treated in the same finish. The circular top allows a sculpture, a vase or a lamp to be displayed.
The art of faux marble, inherited from the decorative schemes of the 18th century, saw a marked revival in the 1970s, when Parisian decorators brought columns, pedestals and stands back into favour to give rhythm to neoclassical interiors. This column belongs fully to that taste.
Condition report: Good general condition. Faux marble paint well preserved, with some possible rubbing from use on the edges of the base. A decorative piece ideal for setting off a work of art in an entrance hall or drawing room.
