Set of Four Two-Light Sconces in Gilt Metal with Foliage Decoration, Neoclassical, Italian Work, circa 1970

Each sconce is composed of an interlacing of gilt metal stems opening out into finely veined lanceolate leaves, forming a vegetal spray of great naturalism. Two light arms spring from it in supple curves, ending in gadrooned flower-corolla candle cups receiving faux candles. The bronzed gilding, slightly patinated, is typical of the Tuscan ateliers.

This naturalistic work in gilt metal is emblematic of Florentine production of the 1960s, heir to the great Italian tradition of gilt tole and iron, which at the time supplied European decorators with whimsical vegetal lights.

Condition report: Good general condition. Even patinated gilding with slight wear from use, sound structure. Electricity checked by an electrician. A rare and decorative set of four, ideal for giving rhythm to a drawing room, a dining room or a corridor.
