Magazine Rack on Wheels in the Form of a Cart in Faux Bamboo Gilt Brass, Neoclassical, French Work, by Maison Baguès, circa 1940

This magazine rack whimsically adopts the silhouette of a handcart: the flared basket, with brass bars and faux bamboo uprights chased with nodes, is divided into three compartments crowned with small finials. A long curved shaft, ending in a seed finial, serves as a grip, and the whole rolls on two spoked wheels rimmed with black, completed by a support foot.

This witty object belongs to the repertoire of Maison Baguès, the Parisian reference in gilt brass and bronze, whose faux bamboo variations — lighting, tables, objects — nourished the taste of decorators as far as the Neoclassical style.

Condition report: Good overall condition. Gilding with an even patina, sound structure, functional wheels. A playful and refined magazine rack, to slip beside a sofa or a reading armchair.
