DESCRIPTION DU PRODUIT
This lidded pot brilliantly illustrates the talent of Jean Derval, one of the most influential French ceramists of the second half of the 20th century. The ceramic, shaped and then enameled with artisanal care, displays a stylized geometric decoration hand-painted in tones of red, white and black. The meeting of the light background and the graphic motifs creates a composition that is at once modern and warm.
Jean Derval's work (1925-2010), based for many years in Vallauris, sits within the great French ceramic tradition that renewed the decorative vocabulary after the war. Trained with Roger Capron and a collaborator of Picasso at Madoura, Derval developed a recognizable style combining graphic rigor, sense of volume and bold chromatic palette. This piece is typical of that synthesis between noble craftsmanship and plastic modernity.
The pot, of intimate format, features a perfectly fitted lid and a balanced silhouette that make it both a decorative object and a functional container. The nuances of the enameled ceramic, slightly irregular as in any artisanal production by an author, testify to a hand execution and give the piece a singularity that industrial production could not match.
This lidded pot will naturally find its place on a shelf, a console, a desk or a mantelpiece, where it will function as a true decorative art object. It pairs particularly well with contemporary or 1960s-70s vintage furniture, but it can also enhance a classical interior, bringing the artisanal and colorful note characteristic of fine French ceramics. A true collector's piece.
