Pair of Brass Bookends Featuring Openwork Terrestrial Globes, Circa 1970

Each bookend consists of a solid patinated brass bracket with an overhanging plinth, on which is mounted a terrestrial globe: the continents, treated in solid relief, stand out against the finely pierced network of parallels and meridians, the whole pivoting within a meridian arc ending in brass balls, in the manner of library globes. This terrestrial globe motif, rendered in patinated brass with bronze tones, belongs to the taste for library and cabinet objects of the 1970s, which brought back the instruments of geography and travel as ornaments of the lettered interior. Condition report: Good overall condition. Brass with a deep and even medal patina, the mechanism of the globes in place.
