Large Decorative Art Nouveau Panel, Autumn Forest Landscape with a Swan on a Pond, Circa 1910

This large decorative panel, painted on canvas laid down in its original cream-painted frame, depicts an autumn undergrowth at the edge of a pond: tall trees with bronzed foliage are reflected in the water on which a white swan glides, while the path strewn with russet leaves leads the gaze towards a copse fading into the mist. The composition is set within a reserve with softened spandrels underlined by a fillet, typical of panelling panels. This type of large painted decoration, executed circa 1910, adorned the dining rooms and drawing rooms of the Belle Époque; its subject — water landscape, swan, autumn light — and its framing in a reserve belong fully to the decorative aesthetic of late Art Nouveau. Condition report: Good general condition given its age. Paint layer fresh and well legible, the painted frame showing marks of time and small wear around the perimeter. A decoration of charm and great size, spectacular above a sideboard or in a stairwell.
