DESCRIPTION DU PRODUIT

This vase plays on the trompe-l'œil of a knotted cloth sack: the ceramic renders the folds, the gathers and the drawstring with striking naturalism. The polychrome glaze depicts a fabric with stylised floral decoration on bright yellow and orange grounds, and the gathered neck naturally forms the opening of the vase. The brilliance of the glaze heightens the illusion of waxed textile. This kind of witty trompe-l'œil ceramic belongs to the pop current of the 1970s, when European workshops — Italian in particular — reinterpreted everyday objects with great virtuosity, in the spirit of the ceramic "crumpled sacks" of the period. Condition report: Good overall condition. Glossy glaze and fresh polychromy, with no notable visible damage.
