DESCRIPTION DU PRODUIT

Each andiron features a flat upright whose top opens into a forged ring enclosing a solid heart, a popular and tender motif that signs the hand of a village blacksmith. The front leg traces an arch with feet delicately turned up in a scroll, while the log bar runs obliquely toward the back, simply ending in a crook. The deep black iron bears the frank marks of hammering.

This artisanal work of around 1900 belongs to the great tradition of French rural forging, whose andirons with symbolic motifs, hearts, rings, roosters, accompanied the hearths of farms and manor houses. Their naive and sincere design appeals today to the most contemporary interiors.

Condition report: Good overall condition. Wrought iron with an old black patina, natural oxidation and traces of use proper to hearth objects. An endearing pair that gives a soul to a country fireplace as much as to a town hearth.
